What’s That Smell?

Image generated via AI.

The other day, I was cutting some wood with a dull blade. It caused the wood to smoke. The smell didn’t bother me. I kind of like the smell of smoke. Like from campfires and especially from fireworks. I noticed hours later that I could smell the smoke from the burnt wood in my shirt. I found it pleasing. Instantly, my thoughts turned to the incense that burned in the temple day and night.

From the temple found in the Old Testament, the altar incense symbolized the prayers of God’s people. The incense burned day and night. We are encouraged to pray without ceasing. (Luke 18:1) The altar of incense was holy to the Lord and was atoned for with the blood of the sacrifice. Today, it is the blood of Jesus Christ applied to our hearts that makes our prayers acceptable.

In my imagination, I can see the fragrance of our prayers getting into whatever outfit God is sporting that day. Okay, probably some type of robe. And as I did with my shirt and the burnt smoke, I can imagine God turning to one side and sniffing, and the odor putting a big smile on his face because his people are praying.

If they are praying, that indicates they trust in God to do what He does best. It means they are relying on him to meet their needs or the needs of someone else. To deliver or heal whatever the situation requires. It is understandable, then, why our prayers cause him to smile. God loves us so much. He wants to be active in our lives and even give us good gifts.

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. Luke 18:1 (NIV)

If you then, although you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Mat. 7:11 (NET)

“I Miss You!”

Image via A.I.

“I miss you!” texted the woman I was seeing several years ago. I was surprised. No one had ever said that to me before. I didn’t understand. “I replied to her, “You just saw me, like, less than two hours ago.”

Fast forward to last Saturday. April was attending her women’s Bible study. Out of the blue, she texted me, “I miss you.” Now I gotta tell ya, it does feel good to be told that. To know that someone in this world misses not being with you in your presence. When I asked her why she said that she responded by saying, “We were discussing “love.”

So, for a few days, I pondered the phrase. I realized and then felt guilty, that we need to love God so much and be in his presence that we say. “I miss you” to God. Being in the presence of God is an incredible feeling! You don’t want to leave because you feel his love surround you.

Being in the throne room of heaven is a privilege we only have because of Jesus dying on the cross. You see, the moment he exhaled his last breath, the veil in the temple of God was ripped from top to bottom. We were no longer separated from God. But now we can enter with boldness and confidence that we are welcomed.

When Jesus died on the cross, God tore the veil in the Jerusalem temple from top to bottom. No one but God could have done such a thing because that veil was 60 feet tall and four inches thick. The direction of the tear meant God destroyed the barrier between himself and humanity, an act only God had the authority to do. 50 But Jesus, again crying out loudly, breathed his last.
51 At that moment, the Temple curtain was ripped in two, top to bottom. Mat. 27:50-51 (MSG)

So, with that, “I miss you, God.”

When Will God Show Up?

There is a lot going on in our world at this time.  Two weeks from today, America will decide to keep the president we currently have, or to elect a new one in.  The most trying thing concerning these times is, how will our decisions effect the future of America, our own lives, or the effect they will have on the world?

This kind of uncertainty can be unnerving, even scary, but it doesn’t have to be.

I’m sure there are people all around the world asking the same question, “When will God show up?”  I share this message with you this day,

He already has!

You see when Jesus died on the cross the veil in the temple of God ripped from top to bottom, and this was no thin, cheap curtain either one might purchase at a discount store.  The only way that curtain could be ripped was by God.  He did it to show that now, through the death of his only son, when we accept Jesus into our lives we can enter into the very presence of God any time we want to.

As a result, for the people who believe in God, his presence is with us as we now are the temple of God.  And we take his presence everywhere we go into the world, and into our homes.  Those are the places where people are, and those people need to see God through us.  The peace He gives unto us to live in the current times we are in.

There are a lot of lies out there being spread.  You could call it, “Fake News”.  Always ask God what He says about the things others are telling us.  Remember this, just because it is on the news or on the internet does not make it true.  Even if part of it is true, God has the final word.

Believers need to place their hope and trust in God, knowing that they are his children, and God, being the loving father He is, takes care of his children.

When others are running aimlessly around in fear they will notice the peace and calm that is within you.  Remember as God’s temple, take his presence to the people of the world.  Be visible, be vocal, so they too may have the hope and peace you have.

Vacancy, For Rent, or Move In?

Charlie 032420Is your heart a hotel for God?  Let’s face it, some let God check in, but then tell him when check out time is.  Worse, others may even post a “No Vacancy” sign.

Or perhaps you rent your heart to God.  You let God in for a particular term of time.  You specify the rules, and how things should be left when He moves out.  It wouldn’t surprise me if you even asked for references.

Why are so many people afraid to give their heart to God?  Because they are afraid he will make changes.  Like clean up the dirt, get rid of the clutter and even rearrange the furniture.  “No!  Not the furniture!”  So many people aren’t happy, but they don’t want to give up control.

If one wants God to do his best work they must sign over the deed to their heart.  Allow him to clean, declutter and yes, even rearrange the furniture.  I assure you, if you trust him to do what needs to be done in order for you to have a better life you will like the improvements.

Rick Renner, from his book “Sparkling Gems from the Greek” reminds us that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor. 6:19)  He leads us in a prayer and a confession:

MY PRAYER FOR TODAY  Lord, I am so excited to think that You made my heart Your home. It is so overwhelming to think that You want to live inside me. Help me see myself as Your dwelling place and to honor Your Presence inside me by the kind of life I lead. I want to bless You and honor You, so please help me do the right things that bring You the greatest pleasure and joy. I pray this in Jesus’ name!

MY CONFESSION FOR TODAY  I gratefully acknowledge that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Yes, the Holy Spirit lives inside me. My heart is not a hotel where He occasionally visits; rather, my heart has become His home. He has invested His power, His gifts, His fruit, and the life of Jesus Christ in me. Inwardly I am highly adorned with the goodness of God. My spirit is so marvelously created in Christ Jesus that God Himself is comfortable to live inside me! I declare this by faith in Jesus’ name!

God’s Favorite Part

Torn011My favorite part, of Jesus’ death on the cross is this; the very moment he exhaled his last breath the thick, tall, heavy curtain that separated man, from the Holy of Holies was torn from top to bottom.  It’s my favorite part, because now, we have direct access to God’s presence.

Yes, I am so grateful to have my sins forgiven, but I love it when I sense God’s presence coming down, and lighting upon me.  When I sense the Holy Spirit enter me, I feel such a tremendous amount of love, peace, joy, and security.  Feeling God’s embrace is unbelievable.  I hope you know what I am talking about.  It is in those moments, I sometimes receive instruction, correction, words of knowledge, secrets, or my favorite, the keys to someone’s heart.  Jesus had the keys when he spoke to the woman at the well.  When you hold those keys, and unlock the secret chambers of one’s heart, real, authentic ministry can take place.

There are times when God just loves on me.  The other night, my Heavenly Father took me out for an ice cream cone.  While I was enjoying the ice cream, I all of a sudden had the realization that the curtain ripping into, in the temple, was God’s favorite part of the story as well.  Why?  Because now, when He enters the temple, He is entering us.  We, are the temple of God.

“Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.”  (1Co 6:19-20 AMP)
