The Zogblat family of Nebulon‑5 had been planning their vacation for years. Zarn (dad), Luma (mom), and their three wiggly hatchlings piled into their shimmering star‑cruiser, snacks packed, tentacles buckled, spirits high.
They were headed for the Andromeda Crystal Caves, a lovely spot with glowing stalactites and only a mild chance of being eaten by cave‑dwelling plasma eels. But before departure, Luma said the fateful words: “Zarn, did you update the Universal Positioning System as I told you?” Zarn puffed out his chest. “Of course I did! I’m not some amateur space navigator.”
He had not updated the UPS. He had, however, accidentally downloaded something called “UPS Earth Edition.” He assumed it stood for Universal Positioning System. He did not know it was a delivery company.
A Wrong Turn at the Horsehead Nebula
Three hours into the trip, the UPS chirped: “In 0.2 light‑years, turn right at… Albuquerque.” Luma squinted. “Zarn… why does the UPS sound like it’s giving directions for a planet we’ve never visited?” Zarn waved her off. “It’s fine. It’s scenic.” The star‑cruiser descended through Earth’s atmosphere, bounced off a billboard for Pearl’s Restaurant, and skidded to a stop in a dusty desert town with a giant green alien statue waving at them. They had arrived in Roswell, New Mexico.
“Wow, They Really Roll Out the Welcome Mat Here”
The Zogblats stepped out of their ship and were immediately greeted by: A gas station selling “Alien Jerky,” a diner offering “Galaxy Burgers,” and a museum dedicated to “The Roswell Incident.” Luma whispered, “Zarn… do they… know about us?” Zarn whispered back, “I don’t think so. I believe they think we’re part of the… theme.”
A tourist snapped a photo with them. Another asked where they bought their “costumes.” A third tried to sell them a T‑shirt that said, “I Got Probed in Roswell.” The Zogblats were horrified. And flattered. And confused.
The UPS Delivers… Chaos
The UPS kept chiming: “Package delivered.” “Package delayed.” “Package rerouted.” Zarn muttered, “Why does it keep talking about packages? We don’t have packages.” Luma crossed her arms. “Because you downloaded the wrong UPS.” Zarn sighed. “Okay, maybe I’m slightly at fault.” The UPS then proudly announced: “You have arrived at your final destination.” Luma said, “Well… maybe we should make the best of it.”
Roswell’s Newest Residents
The Zogblats decided to stay a while. They opened a small business: Zogblat’s Cosmic Curios & Intergalactic Snacks. They introduced: Zero‑gravity churros, Meteor‑crunch trail mix, and a drink called “Nebula Nectar” that made humans float for 3 seconds.
Tourism skyrocketed. Roswell became the alien‑themed town we know today, all because Zarn didn’t update the UPS. Luma eventually forgave him. Mostly. She still brings it up during arguments, though. And every year, on the anniversary of their accidental landing, the Zogblats gather around their ship, raise a glass of Nebula Nectar, and say, “To wrong turns, right places, and the UPS that brought us home.”
